Education Overview

The Department of Pediatrics oversees an extensive medical education enterprise. We train medical students, residents, fellows, and attending physicians from a wide range of institutions and specialties at our three training locations:

Each year, the department trains more than 150 medical students on its core and elective rotations. Fourth-year students can choose between electives at any of our three training sites.

Our categorical pediatric residency program is the only pediatric residency program in Orange County and one of only a handful of programs in the nation with access to two children’s hospitals.

We host fellowships in pulmonology, neonatology, hematology/oncology, neurology and genetics. The department is also home to a master’s degree program in genetics counseling.

For attending physicians, we oversee CME activities at CHOC Children’s Hospital in Orange and Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach.

Our educational programs have successfully trained numerous top-notch physicians.
