Welcome to the Huang Lab website. We are committed to cutting-edge translational research. Currently, the laboratory is focused on the following areas:
The laboratory is composed of a diverse group, including postdoctoral fellows, clinical fellows, PhD students from cellular and molecular bioscience and molecular pathology programs, master degree students from the biotechnology program, genetic counselors, genetic counseling students, undergraduate students and residents.
I am a physician scientist. After completing medical school at Fujian Medical University, I obtained my PhD at Mt. Sinai Medical School. I was trained as a pediatrician and a clinical & molecular geneticist. I completed my pediatric residency at Georgetown University Medical Center and my Clinical Genetics and Clinical Molecular Genetics fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School. Prior to moving to the University of California, Irvine, I was a faculty member at Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.
I joined the UC Irvine staff in 2001. Currently, I serve as the director of MitoMed Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory and director of the Cardiovascular Genetics program. My primary appointment is with the Department of Pediatrics. I have joint appointments in the Department of Pathology and Department of Ophthalmology in the School of Medicine, and Department of Developmental and Cell Biology in the School of Biological Sciences. I am a training faculty member in the stem cell program, a member of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, a member of the UC Irvine Cancer Research Institute, and a member of the Systems Biology training program. Clinically, I serve as an attending physician for UC Irvine Medical Center, Orange County Children’s Hospital, and Long Beach Miller Children’s Hospital.
My research laboratory is located on the 3rd floor of Gillespie Hall with over 2,000 sq. ft of laboratory space. The MitoMed Laboratory is on the second floor of Hewitt Hall with about 800 sq. ft of laboratory space. The laboratories are well-equipped for genetic and molecular studies. The laboratories are adjacent to many well-known investigators at UC Irvine and funded by multiple NIH grants as well as many private foundations.
Our mission is to strive for excellence in research, teaching and patient care.
Sincerely yours,
Taosheng Huang, MD, PhD
